Because that’s what the 550-hp Jaguar F-Type R needed—more power. That’s apparently what Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations thought, because the British cat-factory has just confirmed that a lighter, faster, more powerful 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR is coming to the Geneva auto show on March 1.
Jaguar isn’t revealing the full specs on the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR until February 17, but we do know it will boast a blistering top speed of 200 mph. It’ll be offered both as a coupe and as a convertible, and all-wheel drive is sure to be standard, as it is on the Jaguar F-Type R. Expect an eight-speed automatic to be the sole transmission choice.

An earlier leaked dealer brochure revealed that the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR will use a new version of the same 5.0-liter supercharged V-8, cranked up to 567 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. These figures aren’t confirmed, but would be seriously impressive. It’s also possible that leaves room for a track-oriented model in the spirit of the old XKR-S GT, which could pack over 600 hp.
Jaguar made some changes to the front fascia, hood, and rear end of the F-Type to create the beast that is the SVR. Bigger intakes up front, larger hood vents, and a sizable rear spoiler mounted to the trunk work in tandem to increase downforce and improve cooling. We can also expect lighter wheels, bigger brakes, and probably upgraded rubber.

“The result is a 200-mph, all-weather supercar that you can drive every day,” said SVO managing director John Edwards in a statement. “We even made a convertible version so that enthusiasts can revel in the sound from the new titanium exhaust system.”
I’m genuinely wondering how this exhaust could be any louder than it already is. The nasty pops, belches, and rasps from the F-Type R are so extreme already that it boggles the mind and ear drum to imagine anything wilder. Plus, a former Jaguar product planner familiar with the F-Type’s development once told me the R’s exhaust is aggressively flirting with the boundaries of legal decibel limits in some regions. Will this thing even be legal?
