We’ve seen it as a model car and we’ve seen its S90 sedan sibling, but now we have our first peek at the upcoming Volvo V90 wagon in the flesh. The leaked photos come from Dutch publication Teknikens Värld, which caught an example of the new long-roof in Sweden.
The Volvo V90, which will share the same SPA platform and Drive-E powertrains as the recently revealed 2017 Volvo S90 sedan, distinguishes itself with an attractive rear end providing cargo space aplenty. Vertical taillights reach up along the tailgate in typical Volvo style, though the rear window is more sharply raked than the boxy Volvo wagons of yore. From the C-pillar forward, the V90 appears to be nearly identical to the S90, which in turn takes styling cues like “Thor’s hammer” headlights from the XC90 SUV.
Expect the Volvo V90 to make its debut in a few months, as the S90 sedan (pictured below) will be officially revealed next week at the 2016 Detroit auto show. The standard V90 will also be joined by a V90 Cross Country variant with the requisite body cladding and raised ride height we know from other Volvo Cross Country models. The powertrain lineup should be the same as the S90 sedan, which will use various versions of the 2.0-liter Drive-E four-cylinder, along with a Twin Engine hybrid option with added electric motors.
Stay tuned for more news on this upcoming Volvo station wagon as we learn more info in the coming months.
